Born in Freiburg, Germany, into a musical family, Tatjana Uhde took her first cello lessons at the age of 6, with her mother Sanja Uhde Mitrovic. She later went on to study with Martin Ostertag (Hochschule für Musik, Karlsruhe), Philippe Muller (Conservatoire national supérieur de Paris), and Antonio Meneses (Hochschule der Künste Bern). Since 2008 Uhde has been Associate Principal Cellist at the Paris National Opera. She is also a member of the Festspielorchestra in Bayreuth.
Chamber music constitutes an integral part of Uhde’s career. In her youth she formed a string quartet, the Viktor Ullmann Quartet, with her twin sister violinist Katharina Uhde, which has won several prizes at international competitions. Uhde has participated in chamber music recitals with Martha Argerich and Ivry Gitlis, with whom she performed the Schumann Quintet, Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals and the Mendelssohn Octet. She has also performed the Sextets of Brahms, Schoenberg and Tchaikovsky with Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, and Antonio Meneses.
As a 2nd-prize winner of the International Lutoslawski Cello Competition Warsaw, Uhde has appeared as a soloist with the Schumann Cello Concerto, which she performed at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall with the National Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, and the Biel/Bienne Symphony Orchestra.
Her artistry has been influenced by Wolfgang Böttcher and members of the Alban Berg Quartet, the Tokyo String Quartet, the La Salle Quartet, the Beaux-Arts Trio, the Amadeus Quartet, and the Hagen Quartet.
She is a member of a piano trio and a cello quartet, Trio Velte and Cell’Opera. She is in the process of recording the complete Beethoven Cello Sonatas together with her father, pianist Prof. Michael Uhde.
Uhde plays a fine French cello that was made by Bernardel Père in 1852.
She lives in Paris.
